Last Monday it was D-day. Ten weeks of wracking our brains on Kiwi culture, sports, geography, movies and music. Monday night 31st of May, we found out who was going to be the winner of the ‘Believe it or not Quiz’. In our local pub The Brew on Quay, here in Auckland it was ‘do or die’. It was us, The Team with No Name against Mister Miyagi.

Our intelligence was combined with lots of beer-drinking and pie-eating behaviour (luckily we got points for food and beers too). The result was being the number 1 for over 8 weeks. On the Monday of week 8, we found out that the final night was pretty much a roulette. Each team would get a percentage of a pie (those pie chart things) based on the total amount of points. Mister Miyagi, the number two so far, was getting close. We lost our faith in winning this. Drinking beers and get a correct answer now and then was not going to help us in spinning a wheel. So, we gathered the troops for beers and food, scored a few points on getting the rights answers and got ready for our last quiz night.

We had some laughs, some jokes but as the night progressed, tension rose. Swearing words flew across the table, arguments between team members. A warm-up round on the wheel of fortune led to Mister Miyagi winning a jug of beer. This was not going well…At 10 pm the quiz was done. We were in 4th place, Mr Miyagi in 3rd. This was it. Nothing we could do, only fingers crossed and hoping for the best. All the team names and the scores were put on the computer. Everyone was holding their breath. The wheel spun and spun… it slowed down, still no name… was it Mr Miyagi or Team with no Name? Who was it going to be?

Finally, the wheel came to an end. There it was, the team name on the screen. Was it the smart guys or the team who played smart? The crowd went wild, screaming and cheering. With the quiz host cheering for the winning team, it was clear for everyone in the bar. We, The Team with No Name, made a name for ourselves. A name of Winners. After 10 weeks, we legends won a $1,000 dollar steakhouse voucher!
